Our Day

Redcliffe days are busy, productive and filled with exciting opportunities. We offer our pupils a diverse, modern curriculum that encourages a balanced and confident approach to learning.

Our Day

Alongside teaching traditional values and social skills, we place great emphasis on developing basic literacy and numeracy. Lessons are designed to cater for all academic abilities and every child’s specific needs are taken into account.

There are computers and interactive whiteboards in every classroom to enhance lessons and specialist teaching is provided for subjects such as French, Music, Art, Sport and Ballet. The curriculum comprises: English, Mathematics, Science, French, History, Geography, Religious Studies, Art, Music, ICT, Speech and Drama, Physical Education and Personal, Health and Social Education. Latin is taught in the final two terms of Wordsworth (Year 6). The youngest children in the Nursery and Kingfishers (Reception) classes follow the guidelines of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) program. This places much emphasis on a practical, cross-curricular approach to learning.

Sport is a vital component of the curriculum at Redcliffe and pupils have a physical education lesson every day. Some sports activities (such as swimming, which all the children from Skylarks upwards learn once a week) take place off site and the children are taken to these venues by coach. Children in the Upper School enjoy the opportunity to take part in sporting matches against other local schools. All pupils at Redcliffe are encouraged to appreciate a wide range of music and take part in a variety of performances during the year, either at school or in the local community. There are 3 choirs and a school orchestra.

Extra-curricular activities form an integral part of the Redcliffe package. We have specialist sports coaches and physical exercise is part of the daily routine. Many children learn one or more musical instrument from peripatetic teachers who come to the school.

We also offer a full programme of club activities for all children both after school and on a Friday afternoon. Redcliffe School is ideally placed so that pupils can benefit from its central location. All classes will visit a museum, gallery or similar each term. The visit will be scheduled to enhance the curriculum in a particular area of study. Annual residential trips are organised for children from Coleridge (Year 3) to Wordsworth (Year 6). These trips are of increasing length as the children grow older and give them an opportunity take part in outdoor activities and team building exercises that support the school curriculum.
