Our School

At Redcliffe School, we work within a strong moral framework based on core Christian values. Promoting an appetite for learning and discovery is central to our teaching philosophy, where individuality and independent thought are encouraged and valued. We firmly believe every child will achieve success given a nurturing and happy environment.

We make the most of every resource and facility available to us to create opportunities for the children. Our central location allows us to arrange frequent visits to museums, concerts and exhibitions, as well as regular curriculum-related outings.

We believe that as well as placing emphasis on developing core Mathematics and Literacy skills, Sport, Art and Music are essential components of our well-balanced curriculum. In addition to regular class music lessons, our pupils have the opportunity to have individual instrumental tuition, with instruments currently including the violin, piano and guitar.

Our sporting curriculum is varied and we are proud of our sporting record in local matches against other schools.

Lower School

Lower School

September 2007 saw the expansion of our Lower School into new purpose-built premises, situated on the lower ground of St. Luke’s Church in Redcliffe Gardens. The facilities include an outside play area, designed specifically with the younger age group in mind. Well-lit and airy state-of-the-art classrooms ensure an optimum learning environment.

Our Lower School is especially tailored to meet the needs of younger boys and girls. Even our youngest children, the Redcliffe Robins, form an integral part of our school community joining with the other classes for assembly and other school occasions. St Luke’s Hall, at the new Lower School, is the place where our whole school gathers to celebrate our achievements and community life together. All Lower School classes are co-educational. Our commitment to small class numbers means the children benefit from personal attention. Working alongside the class teacher, every form has an experienced assistant.

Entry into our Kingfisher class is by informal assessment following an initial registration, and occurs the year prior to the child joining us. Children already in the Robins are assessed during their normal nursery programme.

Upper School

Upper School

At 47 Redcliffe Gardens, our older pupils enjoy a broad and balanced curriculum which makes learning fun ensuring students are thoroughly prepared for a range of entrance examinations for the day or boarding school of their choice. We are proud of the fact that Redcliffe children succeed in gaining entry to their first choice of schools while working in a relaxed yet purposeful environment.

As they progress through our school, Redcliffe children are encouraged to develop their leadership skills by taking on roles of responsibility. These include heading tables at school lunches, ringing the bell for lessons and compiling an ongoing album of school photographs. All Upper School children take part in the election of the school parliament, introduced in 2009, which decides on several areas of policy and activity including playground behaviour and the choice of our annual charity.

Our older girls and boys are taken on residential educational visits, which they thoroughly enjoy, giving them the opportunity to develop their leadership and teamworking skills as well as helping them to become more independent. New for this year, our girls, in their final year with us, will participate in a residential trip to France.
